Prenatal & Postpartum Massage

Getting a massage during pregnancy is beneficial for both mother and baby. Massage is best if experienced during the second and third trimester.  Touch is vital to the mother's physical and emotional well-being as she adapts to her new body. Regardless of individual circumstances, a pregnant woman's body is challenged, changed, and stressed in many ways. Massage gives special attention to the mother-to-be, which in turn nurtures the new life she is supporting.

When receiving a prenatal massage, you will be side-lying and comfortably supported by many pillows. Mountain Lotus Massage Therapy always uses organic oils.

Take the time to care for yourself and your baby during this amazing time in your life. I look forward to working with you and your baby.

The Benefits

In the fall of 2005, I was certified in Prenatal/Postpartum Massage so that I could massage my friends who were starting to have children. After my first class, I realized the miracle of the birth process and the dramatic effect of massage during this time. I fell in love with working with pregnant women and continued my training, receiving more specific training in Prenatal Massage, Labor Support and Postpartum Massage. After I gave my first Prenatal Massage, I witnessed my client's face change from stressed, tired, and pale to glowing and radiant. At that moment, I knew it was something every pregnant woman should experience.

The benefits of Prenatal Massage include:

  • Increased circulation which supports the heart, increases cell respiration, and decreases swelling

  • Provides emotional support which helps reduce mood swings

  • Creates a nurturing space to enable a pregnant woman to translate feelings of physical and emotional well being to her unborn child. After the child is born, this creates better bonding with the child and more meaningful and caring touch from the mother.

  • Improves the development of the child

  • Relieves muscle spasms, cramps, pain, and sciatica

  • Improves labor outcomes and eases labor pain

The benefits of Postpartum Massage include:

  • Promotes postpartum restoration of the abdomen and the body’s alignment

  • Provides support for a new mother with physical and emotional challenges
